CBT Surrey

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an effective, evidence-based treatment that helps people understand and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour that can lead to emotional distress.

CBT can assist with a wide range of difficulties, including trauma, stress and anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Using this approach, I create a safe and compassionate space in which I help my clients learn to challenge negative thoughts and develop more balanced, realistic perspectives. I love witnessing how CBT helps my clients make positive behavioural changes, enabling them to rediscover joy and regain mastery over their difficulties, leading to lasting emotional wellbeing.

I offer in-person CBT in Surrey, with sessions also available online across the UK. If you’d like to find out more or explore whether CBT with me could be right for you, please get in touch to arrange a free 15-minute consultation on Microsoft Teams.

What Is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is structured evidence-based talking therapy that focuses on how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours interact in the here and now.

I use CBT to guide my clients to understand how thoughts, feelings and associated behaviour can keep their difficulties going and suggest practical tools and skills to make lasting and sustainable positive changes in their day to day lives.

What Happens in CBT?

  • We will start with a detailed assessment, which will allow us to set clear goals to maintain focus and track your progress over time.

  • Sessions are structured, and together we will identify and address the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that may be holding you back.

  • We will collaboratively create exercises for you to practice between sessions, helping you apply new skills in daily life.

  • Sessions will be tailored to your needs, and whether they take place in person or online, I will provide a flexible and supportive space to help you make positive changes and achieve your goals.

How Does CBT Differ from Other Forms of Therapy?

CBT is a structured, collaborative, and practical therapy that addresses difficulties as they are experienced in the here and now.

While some therapies focus in depth on the past, CBT tends to focus more on the present day-to-day, helping you understand the current impact of unhelpful patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

CBT is a skills-based approach that provides practical tools to help you make positive and sustainable changes, supporting a lasting sense of wellbeing and recovery.

Who Can Benefit from CBT?

CBT can help anyone who finds themselves struggling with unhelpful thoughts or behavioural patterns that are affecting their mood and daily life. It is particularly effective for:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Stress

  • Panic

  • Trauma

  • Low self-esteem

  • Challenges with confidence.

I especially enjoy using CBT with clients who are looking for practical tools and skills to manage difficult emotions or general overwhelm.

CBT for Anxiety

CBT is a well-researched and effective approach for treating anxiety. Even in cases where anxiety feels completely overwhelming, CBT offers strategies and tools you can learn and put into practice quickly.

You’ll develop practical techniques to calm your body, challenge unhelpful thinking, and gradually build confidence in situations you may have previously avoided. Over time, these skills can help you feel more grounded and in control.

Many people find that CBT brings a renewed sense of freedom and resilience to their everyday lives.

CBT for Low Mood and Depression

CBT is also an effective and well-researched treatment approach for people who feel low or depressed. Feeling low can lead to a loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy or a sense of disconnection from others.

CBT provides a practical yet compassionate approach to help you recover from low mood and rediscover a sense of pleasure in activities and interests you once enjoyed.

By exploring how negative thinking and reduced activity can maintain feelings of depression, CBT helps you reconnect with meaningful activities and rebuild a sense of hope and motivation.

Over time, these gradual steps can help you regain your energy and “spark,” leading to a greater sense of purpose and wellbeing.
